As my car ran out of gas that frigid February afternoon on a Midwest highway, I could only imagine how cold the walk would be to the nearest gas station. The local weather guy said temps were around zero with the wild chill. So I pulled on my hat and gloves and started my two mile trek to the nearest gas station, so I thought. As good fortune (karma) would have it, barely a minute into my walk I was picked up by the "good karma" man.
The gentleman was on his way to work when he spotted me hoofing it along the expressway. He swung over to give me a lift. I was stoked! I shared with him that I drive about 200 miles everyday for work and stop for stranded motorists almost weekly. My new friend, matter of factly responded that it was karma and that I had " good karma" coming my way (he was right). I thanked him as he dropped me off at the gas station and wished him a good day. After I filled the loaner gas can and began my hike back to my car I was immediately picked up by another motorist. Turns out the husband and wife combo had recently been in a similar stranded predicament and were happy return a kind gesture to a stranger. I again shared the seemingly uncanny coincidence of my good fortune. They suggested that I might be on to something bigger than coincidence. They dropped me off at my car, then faded away into traffic.
Since that fateful day I have embraced the good karma that exists all around us. It's amazing how this works if you are open to it! Sometimes it's positive expectations, or believing in your fellow man, or a simple kind gesture to a stranger. For years I have struggled with my life's walk or purpose. To use the words of a good Samaritan ... I think I might be on to something. This My Good Karma thing feels pretty good right now.
